Job Summary Reports to Sleep Manager under supervision by Polysomnographic Technologist. A Student Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and designee (department director/manager/supervisor/technologist) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. Essential Functions Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or Medical Director and laboratory protocols. Complete and verify documentation. Explain procedures to the patient. Prepare and calibrate testing equipment. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Follow department procedural protocols (PSG, MSLT, MWT, PAP, oxygen titration etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data. Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for optimal patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration and CO2 monitoring, etc). Fully engaged in own training and orientation and necessary education needed to develop skill set to meet all expectations of a Polysomnographic Technologist. Participates in quality management program, Joint Commission initiatives and process improvement projects. Establishes and maintains all policies, procedures in compliance with regulatory agencies, including maintaining the standards and accreditation set forth by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Facilitates adequate inter and intra departmental communication. Participates in committees, professional organization and/or community activities as assigned. Qualifications Required Currently, in a formal polysomnography program and/or enrolled in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option OR enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP online Self Study Modules in preparation for certification exam. Preferred Associate's Degree Familiar with the field of sleep medicine with progressive completion of an A-Step or other CAAHEP program.
