Overview

In response to our expanding operations, TRC Field Services (FSV) is on the lookout for additional Relay Test Technicians to bolster our Client Teams throughout the Northeast Region of the United States. These roles involve significant travel, with fieldwork expected to comprise 75% of your time.

With a robust team of over 200 seasoned utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, TRC provides comprehensive, cost-efficient solutions to our Electric Utility Clients, coupled with superior training programs and mentorship opportunities for career advancement.

As a leading national provider of testing and commissioning services, our personnel undergo extensive in-house training, ensuring effective project initiation and compliance with client standards. We adhere to well-established protocols to guarantee safe and thorough planning and testing, thereby managing risks and protecting ongoing operations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for tasks including, but not limited to, the installation, testing, inspection, calibration, and repair of all system protection devices, transducers, and equipment (including microprocessor-based and electronic relays, circuits, protective controls, switchboards, and other substation apparatus) within Client electric transmission and distribution systems.

  • Fundamental understanding of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) principles and protection schemes.
  • Proficient in interpreting construction and manufacturer’s drawings and specifications.
  • Capable of understanding schematic diagrams.
  • Experience with relay test sets to validate protective device settings; familiarity with Doble Protest, SEL AcSELerator, and ENOSERVE RTS is advantageous.
  • Competent in operating computers and related software necessary for fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve issues promptly using sound judgment.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills necessary for the role.
  • A valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence in good standing is required.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • An associate degree in industrial electrical, instrumentation and control, or electronics is preferred, along with two years of progressively responsible experience in system protection related to the installation and maintenance of electro-mechanical and electronic relays and control equipment used by electric utilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Goose Messaging is preferred.

Physical Demands:

The role requires regular physical activity, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands for handling or feeling, and reach with hands and arms. Lifting or pulling heavy cables and equipment exceeding 50 pounds, as well as working at ground level and in trenches or manholes, is necessary. Special vision requirements include close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the salary range applicable to this position will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Additional Compensation: Employees may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators, which may vary by year and employee.
