SUMMARY
The Engineering Division Leader is responsible for shaping and implementing the technological vision of TECO-Westinghouse. This role involves overseeing product innovation, managing engineering documentation for orders and after-market services, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and safeguarding the company's intellectual property.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic leadership to define both short-term and long-term goals, plans, and policies that enhance product and technology development aligned with the company's growth and profitability objectives.
- Collaborate with Business Development to create product and technology roadmaps, executing plans to meet the established objectives.
- Lead TECO's engineering initiatives, offering technical guidance and spearheading global engineering projects as necessary.
- Prepare and oversee engineering and R&D budgets, ensuring alignment with financial targets.
- Enhance the company's technical expertise by developing team members and attracting skilled professionals to support technology and product innovation.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Implement a continuous improvement framework to minimize errors, boost productivity, and refine design methodologies.
- Ensure the timely completion of engineering projects and product development within budget constraints.
- Manage technical resources by assessing departmental needs, staying updated on industry advancements, and preparing annual budgets.
- Stay informed about technological advancements relevant to the company's operations and evaluate their readiness for application in products and services.
- Oversee the management of the company's intellectual property portfolio, determining strategies for IP protection and collaborating with legal experts on patent applications.
- Engage with academic institutions and government entities to develop business cases and proposals for technology projects, securing funding and resources for R&D initiatives.
- Represent the organization in various business and technical forums, engaging with customers, stakeholders, and the public.
- Ensure the secure maintenance and retrieval of the company's engineering knowledge and technical data.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 standards, as well as adherence to the company's affirmative action plan and safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams focused on the development and design of medium voltage variable frequency drives and/or custom industrial electric machines.
- At least fifteen years of experience in designing and/or constructing medium voltage power converters or large electric rotating machines.
- Experience in manufacturing and/or field support of specialized electrical equipment is advantageous.
- Managerial experience should encompass budget management, project planning, KPI development, and personnel growth.
- Experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives is a plus.
- A proven history of driving business expansion through product innovation and the execution of product roadmaps.
- Experience in collaborating with universities and government agencies to build business cases for R&D funding.
- Experience in managing an intellectual property portfolio and navigating the patent process.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for medium voltage power converters and electric machines is beneficial.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required; a Master's or PhD is preferred.
- Strong representation skills in technical or business settings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- A sense of urgency and responsiveness.
- Ability to distill complex topics into clear and accessible communication.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
