Job Description:


This is a part-time (24 hours per week, 60% effort) professional / unclassified position at the National Center for Disaster Fraud (NCDF), a program within the Stephenson National Center for Security Research and Training (SNCSRT) at LSU.

The Fraud Investigation Specialist will be engaged in a critical role, working closely with the Federal Housing Finance Agency Office of the Inspector General Hotline.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Assess and analyze incoming complaints to ascertain whether the allegations of fraud, waste, and/or abuse are relevant to Federal Home Loan Banks and Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs).

2. Conduct preliminary investigative actions to enhance and substantiate the initial complaint following NCDF's established procedures. (20%)


3. Collaborate with NCDF personnel to maintain quality control and training, while also working with supervisory staff to ensure the accuracy of statistical reporting of Hotline complaints.

Additional duties as assigned by FHFA OIG HQ staff. (20%)

4. Consolidate complaint information and direct incoming complaints to the appropriate federal agency or OIG for necessary action. (20%)


5. Oversee the timeline of all Hotline cases to guarantee timely openings and closures, managing responses to ascertain GSE connections within 7 days.

6. Address inquiries from the FHFA-OIG FOIA Office and requests for clarification or further action from OIG Investigators/Hotline Supervisor. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of investigative experience or equivalent experience as a white-collar criminal investigator. Comprehensive knowledge of essential elements and processes utilized in investigating fraud allegations. Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent verbal/written communication skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-2 years of experience in a hotline environment is advantageous.

Special / Physical Qualifications:

Must possess the ability to pass a federal background check. Occasional travel may be required.

Physical Demands:


Physical capability and hand-eye coordination necessary to operate standard office equipment; ability to remain seated for extended periods (5.5+ hours a day) while performing continuous hand motions when entering data into the computer system.
