Job Summary:
The Residential Counselor is a vital member of our team at Arrow Child and Family Ministries, responsible for providing daily care and supervision to residents in our care. This role requires a compassionate and skilled individual who can create a safe and supportive environment for our residents to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in a trauma-informed model of programming to provide physical and emotional safety for residents.
- Supervise residents in various activities to promote positive social behavior and effect changes in their social behavior.
- Model and teach life skills to program residents, including interpersonal relationships, social skills, and navigation of internal and external surroundings.
- Complete shift documentation, including residential case notes, incident reports, and resident inventory.
- Observe and participate in treatment of residents, including limit setting and implementation of treatment plans.
- Assignments include escorting residents to groups, interviews, meetings, mealtime, recreation, education activities, medical appointments, and supervision.
- Maintain developmental age-appropriate rules and expectations, including proper conduct of residents during work, recreation, and education.
- Administer and record medication as ordered by physician or delegating nurse.
- Provide supervision for resident participation in canine and equine programs, including direct care for the animals when necessary.
- Work to prevent inappropriate behaviors in the residential milieu.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Maintain professional boundaries between self and residents to ensure appropriateness in the working relationship.
- Communicate all appropriate information internally and externally to facilitate the treatment of the resident.
- Be flexible and available to work various shifts on multiple days of the week.
- Attend trainings and meetings as required.
- Share/transmit the mission and vision of Arrow Child and Family Ministries to staff and to clients and families served.
- Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, Arrow policy, and COA.
- Review client files on a periodic basis to become familiarized with the specific, individualized needs and goals of the residents in their care.
- May be required to drive ACFM vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete Arrow's vehicle training.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED and at least one (1) year experience working with children and families preferably in the child welfare industry.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
