Job Summary

We are seeking an Educational Support Specialist to join our team at ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education. This role will provide individualized supervision and instruction to assigned students, as well as additional support to the core classroom staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers in creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere that fosters high expectations of student learning.
  • Implement on-site and community-based curriculum instruction and behavioral intervention strategies aligned with student goals and objectives.
  • Instruct and monitor students during lessons in the classroom to ensure fidelity of instruction and utilize instructional strategies to assist with student learning.
  • Encourage and monitor student progress, communicating with classroom teachers about overall progress or interventions needed.
  • Manage student behavior by upholding the Ombudsman philosophy and policies, applying disciplinary measures when necessary, and working collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure consistency.
  • Counsel students with academic issues, providing encouragement and working with students to improve their skills in various areas.
  • Document student behavior accurately and timely, reporting observations to relevant staff and/or making recommendations based on observations.
  • Assist in preparing other behavioral reports and daily activities logs as required.
  • Communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors, and parents regarding student needs and academic progress in collaboration with classroom teachers and principal.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Participate in assurance and accreditation processes to ensure site performance plans are met.
  • Attend school, student/parent, and student advisory meetings as requested.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate degree or higher in education or a closely related field preferred.
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in a special education program setting.
  • Skilled in working with individuals with autism spectrum-related disabilities and/or challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in emergency situations and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students to help them move toward realistic goals and next steps.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
Compensation and Benefits

Estimated salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
