Role Summary and Responsibilities

The NICU Nursing Supervisor is accountable for overseeing, coordinating, and assessing the nursing care delivered within the designated unit(s). This role also involves managing unit activities to ensure safe and effective care delivery. The Supervisor collaborates with the Assistant Vice President of Women's Services to implement performance improvement initiatives, adhere to hospital policies and procedures, and manage the unit's financial operations.

  • Engages in hospital or departmental performance enhancement activities.
  • Responsible for recruiting and hiring nursing personnel.
  • Oversees nursing staff scheduling.
  • Acts as an advocate for nursing personnel.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for the nursing unit.
  • Evaluates staff performance and provides feedback.
  • Handles disciplinary actions, counseling, and staff development.
  • Participates in the financial management of the assigned unit.
  • Contributes to financial planning and budgeting for the unit.
  • Organizes and leads staff meetings.
  • Plans and coordinates unit-specific training sessions.
  • Manages clinical operations on the assigned unit, ensuring adherence to age-specific standards.
  • Maintains 24-hour accountability for the direction, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of unit activities and services.
  • Seeks opportunities to enhance departmental or interdepartmental processes.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Current Texas RN license or RN Compact State License.
  • BLS certification from an approved HCA vendor.
  • STABLE certification from an HCA vendor within six months of employment.
  • NRP certification within six months of employment.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a related field is required.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a staff nurse in the relevant clinical area.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills pertinent to the assigned clinical practice area.
  • Prior management experience or proven capability to assume a leadership role.
