Job Overview

Position Title: MRI Patient Care Technician/Clinical Receptionist

Reporting To: MRI Manager and Clinical Reception/Authorization Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general oversight of the MRI Manager and Clinical Reception/Authorization Coordinator, this role is essential in facilitating the clinical and operational functions of the MRI department and associated medical practice. The individual will ensure that services are delivered in a professional, timely, and courteous manner, adhering to all federal and state regulations regarding the privacy and security of patients' Protected Health Information (PHI).

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • High school diploma is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year of experience in a medical practice setting.
  • Strong understanding of Anatomy & Physiology, along with medical terminology.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome patients and visitors with empathy and a commitment to outstanding service.
  • Provide detailed explanations of exam preparations to patients and address any questions or concerns, seeking assistance from technologists or physicians when necessary.
  • Assist technologists, physicians, and other staff as required.
  • Manage supply inventory and assist patients on and off the examination table.
  • Participate in weekend shifts as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Upon patient check-in, utilize the computer system to verify demographics, insurance eligibility, referrals, and authorizations.
  • Scan necessary identification and insurance documents into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Distribute appropriate new patient paperwork.
  • Coordinate appointment scheduling.
  • Conduct daily chart reviews for upcoming visits, ensuring insurance verification, referrals, and authorizations are in order.
  • Scan and import clinical forms into the EMR on a daily basis.
  • Handle incoming phone calls, directing or transferring as needed.
  • Obtain and scan Medical Record Release forms as requested by patients.
  • Manage the distribution of medical records for patient retrieval.
  • Ensure that release forms are completed and payments are processed when applicable.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and various staff members, including medical assistants and physicians.
  • Maintain clear communication with technologists and patients regarding wait times or delays.
  • Conduct thorough audits of incoming orders to ensure alignment between orders and clinical information, notifying the physician or Medical Assistant of any discrepancies.
  • Screen patients for safety in accordance with MRI manufacturer guidelines, including verifying implant information.
  • Ensure that prior diagnostic testing clearance is obtained and relevant documentation is scanned into the patient's chart.
  • Maintain training in MRI safety level II and Basic Life Support (BLS) as required.
  • Ensure timely delivery and action on incoming faxes.
  • Respond to voice mail messages promptly.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and practice guidelines.
  • Maintain proficiency in practice management and other relevant software.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and continuing education sessions as required.

Physical Demands: The role may require prolonged periods of sitting, as well as bending, stooping, and stretching to access files and supplies. The employee should be capable of performing these physical tasks as needed.
