Job Title: Ship Repair Supervisor

Epsilon Systems is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ship Repair Supervisor to join our team in Portsmouth, VA.

Job Summary:

The Ship Repair Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of welders, fitters, mechanics, electricians, helpers, and other trades personnel on various shipboard system repair and installation projects. The successful candidate will act as a liaison between the customer and the company, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise subordinate personnel, establishing safety and work performance standards.
  • Read and interpret ship prints, welding, piping, and structural drawings, elevation, arrangement, and electrical drawings, as well as associated welding symbols, electrical/electronic schematics, diagrams, and technical trade-specific drawing components.
  • Plan, assign, schedule, and supervise the work of skilled and trades helper subordinates on various shipboard system repair and installation projects.
  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.
  • Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries, and prepare reports of findings.
  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
  • Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.
  • Compile operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results.
  • Prepare routine work and time reports and maintain standard records.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
  • Assist program and project teams with prospective work estimates and hours needed to complete the job, including material procurement, quotes, and duration of project.
  • Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.
  • Perform related work as required.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years' related ship repair work experience.
  • Ability to travel 5% - 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations and private shipyards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work independently or in a group.
  • Ability to do basic math, i.e., add, subtract, divide, and multiply.
Work Environment:
  • Shop environment, pier side, and shipboard.
  • Frequent standing, sitting, crawling, kneeling, stooping, crouching, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.
  • Regular communication (hearing/speaking).
  • Occasional lifting up to 50+ pounds.
  • Noise conditions range from very quiet to very noisy.
  • Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (on board ships).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
