Role of the Firefinder

The term "Firefinder" refers to advanced radar technology that utilizes radio and sound waves to detect various threats, including mortars and aircraft. As a Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator, you will be tasked with operating sophisticated equipment to pinpoint enemy targets, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of defensive operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain effective communication through radio and wire systems.
• Construct protective structures for field artillery operations.
• Conduct regular maintenance and checks on Firefinder radar systems.

Skills Development

• Gain expertise in field tactics and combat communication strategies.
• Learn to calculate and record critical data such as speed, direction, and altitude.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in geometry and mathematics.
• Ability to maintain concentration over extended periods.

In this position, you will acquire essential skills that are valuable in any civilian career, including teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Additionally, you will become familiar with advanced computer systems utilized in targeting and communication processes.

Compensation and Training

Instead of incurring costs for training, you will receive compensation while you learn. In the Army National Guard, you will earn a steady paycheck while acquiring these vital job skills, along with eligibility for tuition assistance.

Training for Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operators consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where foundational Soldiering skills are taught, followed by eight weeks of Advanced Individual Training that includes both classroom instruction and practical fieldwork.
