Health, Safety, and Sustainability Director

At Ports America Shared Services, Inc., we are seeking a highly skilled Health, Safety, and Sustainability Director to join our team. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Sustainability strategy across our Northeast operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic support to the VP Operations in Health, Safety, and Sustainability (HS&S).
- Identify and mitigate critical risks, and standardize processes across Ports America.
- Develop risk registers and control plans for high-risk activities at our sites in Newark NJ, Manhattan Cruise Terminal, Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, Portland Maine, Davisville RI, and Boston MA.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions and drive business results.
- Assist in the development, coordination, and compliance with Ports America HS&S Standards, programs, and promotions.
- Mentor and guide Operations and Maintenance/Engineering leaders.
- Contribute to the development and attainment of strategic goals and objectives for HS&S.
- Review HS&S programs to ensure compliance with current and future legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Research Environmental Health & Safety Grants to support Company or Customers.
- Partner with Intelex Support to optimize Intelex for HS&S systems, programs, and reporting.
- Organize and synchronize data from all Business Units to achieve Green Marine Certification.
- Coordinate and collect data from Human Resources, Safety, General Council, and Engineering teams for GRESB certification, Green Marine Certification, and added certifications.
- Lead or assist in the investigation of serious incidents, identify corrective actions, and share lessons learned across Ports America.
- Promote positive behaviors aligned with Ports America values and culture.
- Coordinate with Business Unit leaders on Corporate Social Responsibility and community-focused activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in HSE developing and executing strategic initiatives.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in corporate sustainability within the maritime, terminal operations, and/or other logistics industries.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree or higher.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or willingness to work towards CSP Certification.
- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence business leaders to execute strategic initiatives.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strategic and creative thinker.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
