Senior Communications Manager, Media Relations

We are seeking a seasoned Media Relations Manager to join our team at ICF. This role will involve developing and executing earned and digital media relations strategies and tactics for our clients.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing projects, leading teams, and working collaboratively with clients and project team members. They will also have knowledge of advanced media relations principles and strategies, client relations, and public relations.

Responsibilities will include providing senior-level counsel to multiple clients, managing and delivering high-quality deliverables, overseeing and mentoring communications specialists, and fostering relationships with reporters and journalists.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of managing projects as a consultant to public and/or commercial sector clients or as a government employee, serving in a managerial role, leading implementation of strategic communications activities, and working collaboratively with clients, contractors for other firms, and/or project team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior-level counsel to multiple clients across the public health, energy, environmental, climate, and other sectors.
  • Manage and deliver high-quality deliverables in a hybrid work environment.
  • Oversee and mentor multiple communications specialists.
  • Foster relationships with reporters and journalists across various beats and sectors.
  • Serve as an experienced member of ICF's Media Relations Practice.
  • Delegate and oversee assignments in coordination with account/project managers.
  • Support the development of marketing and communications strategies and plans for key programs and initiatives.
  • Identify new business opportunities within the federal government and state/local agencies.
  • Contribute to new business pursuits.

Qualifications:

  • BS or BA.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of demonstrated experience in managing projects as a consultant to public and/or commercial sector clients or as a government employee, serving in a managerial role, leading implementation of strategic communications activities, and working collaboratively with clients, contractors for other firms, and/or project team members.
  • Knowledge of advanced media relations principles and strategies, client relations, and public relations.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills, especially written.
  • Strong project management, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Strong planning, research, and organizational abilities.
  • Consultancy, corporate, or government agency experience preferred.
  • Self-starter, with ability to independently manage and delegate tasks and handle multiple priorities.
  • Experience mentoring and/or supervising communications staff.

Job Location:

Open to remote within the US. Preferred location in either ICF's Reston, VA or Rockville, MD office in a hybrid telework arrangement.
