Position Summary

The role involves managing the processing of medical Release of Information requests from patients and authorized third parties, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, as well as federal and state laws. The specialist will utilize specific tools and databases to accurately enter, update, and maintain all relevant data. This position also contributes to the establishment of information management standards that enhance the integrity of patient records while supporting the overall ROI workflows within the Health Information Management Division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle requests for information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines from both patients and third-party entities.
  • Verify that appropriate authorization is secured and maintain precision in data processing.
  • Exhibit expertise in record content and uphold professionalism when interacting with clients.
  • Manage work queues effectively and ensure accuracy in processing patient-requested changes.
  • Understand and apply system policies and procedures to assist in the management of patient/provider relationship termination communications.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to support the department's objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent; familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Experience: 1-3 years in a Health Information Management setting with Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience is essential; 3-5 years in a clinical or acute care environment is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification is preferred.
