We are currently seeking a proficient Senior Buyer to enhance our procurement team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of sourcing and managing assigned commodities effectively. This role will be under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate, execute, and oversee purchase orders, ensuring timely communication regarding any modifications or updates related to production delivery.
- Procure materials for MRP, NPI, and requisition demands.
- Independently manage and prioritize daily and weekly workloads.
- Initiate the onboarding process for new vendors, including the collection of vendor certifications and assessments to evaluate supplier capabilities.
- Lead negotiations for commodities to secure cost reductions while minimizing risks.
- Assess fair pricing through historical purchase data and by obtaining multiple supplier quotes.
- Conduct ongoing supplier evaluations to ensure compliance with contract terms and vendor performance standards.
- Foster and maintain essential relationships with suppliers to contribute to Elma's success.
- Collaborate with internal teams to address supplier-related business challenges.
- Act as a reliable advisor to the Engineering and Sales departments.
- Resolve non-conformance issues related to assigned commodities with vendors.
- Work towards minimizing obsolescence.
- Process orders for straightforward outplant services, managing schedules, transportation, and product flow in and out of inventory.
- Perform inventory assessments for surplus and obsolete materials.
- Adhere to established procedures as outlined in Elma's quality manual.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Essential Qualities:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, with a working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and database applications.
- Demonstrated negotiation expertise.
- Ability to tackle complex problems to ensure sound business and financial decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate positive relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational capabilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with management, colleagues, clients, and suppliers, both in person and via telephone.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent experience.
- 3 to 8 years of experience in production purchasing within the electronic or high-tech manufacturing sector, with a focus on supplier development.
