Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant to join our team at the City of Morgantown, WV. The successful candidate will be responsible for daily tracking, balancing, and reconciliation of revenue, as well as maintaining the general ledger for bank reconciliations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify all cash drawers and revenues collected on a daily basis.
  • Assist the cashier and clerks for balancing, voids, or corrections to receipts.
  • Daily posting of all receipts, ACHs, and ETFs, and bank date verifications for the office accountant to assist with bank reconciliation.
  • Balance, approve, and post journals for the AS400 system on a daily basis for B&O revenue.
  • Daily bank reconciliation of all online payment system revenue receipted in, including tracking, balancing, refunding, and reporting, and troubleshooting on issues with other departments.
  • Reconcile the third-party collection business for B&O taxes and create monthly POs for distribution of collections.
  • Reconcile Hotel/Motel revenue and submit monthly POs for distribution of revenue.
  • Assist with monthly billings as needed.
  • Assist with posting of daily journals to the general ledger as needed by the Assistant Finance Director.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Between two to four years of experience.
  • Intermediate level user of Excel and other Microsoft products.
  • Experience working in government financing.
  • Experience working with the General Ledger.
Working Conditions

This position operates in an indoor office environment, sitting, standing, walking, using a computer, and other office equipment, and communicating orally and in writing. Physical ability may include the ability to lift files or office supplies up to 20 lbs.

Use of Technology and Equipment

This position has daily use of computers, the Internet, Smartphones, etc., to create databases, spreadsheets, or reports. Position designs and creates customized reports, presentations, and/or documents using advanced software skills.

Contact and Supervision

Communicates with city management, department heads, citizens, business owners, and other parties concerning financial reporting matters. This position works under the direction of the Finance Director and the Assistant Finance Director.
