About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our food service team at UMass Amherst. As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our dining halls and catering services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Wash and sanitize pots, pans, and utensils to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Clean and maintain food service equipment, counters, floors, and furniture.
  • Prepare and cook simple meals, including peeling, chopping, and washing foods.
  • Transport food to and from storage areas, load food carts, and serve food to diners.
  • Assist other food services staff with the preparation of more complex dishes.
  • Operate kitchen equipment, including coffee makers and dishwashers.
  • Separate and remove trash and garbage, and place them in designated containers.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of approved sanitary methods and procedures for kitchen and food service equipment.
  • Ability to use kitchen equipment, including dishwashers and coffee makers.
  • Ability to cook simple meals and assist with more complex dishes.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with exposure to wet and slippery floors, seasonal high and low temperatures, and sharp surfaces.
