About Us

The Jewish Community Center of Staten Island was founded in 1929 with the goal of creating a home for the Jewish community by offering social, recreational, and educational activities. Over time, that mission expanded to help anyone who walked through the doors of any of our facilities. We have become a true community center, not just for the Jewish community, but for the entirety of Staten Island. Our programs serve the needs we see in our community and are constantly expanding to meet new demand.



Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment for all individuals who contact the social services department, including those in need of food pantry and workforce services. You will assist individuals with applying for all qualifying benefits and work closely with JCC off-site programs to provide information on available services and benefits. Your excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations will be essential in this role.



Responsibilities


  • Conduct comprehensive assessments for all individuals who contact the social services department
  • Assist individuals with applying for all qualifying benefits
  • Work closely with JCC off-site programs to provide information on available services and benefits
  • Make internal referrals to other JCC programs, including GED, ESL, Career Connections, and CHIPS
  • Ensure compliance with funders' protocols
  • Maintain records of all efforts, including outreach, contacts, and outcomes
  • Appropriately represent the Center in all forums


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need at least 2 years of experience working in the social services field, excellent communication skills, and training in interviewing skills, client assessment, determining eligibility, community resources, and information/referral process.



Preferred Requirements


  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the community
  • Bilingual Russian and/or Spanish a plus
  • Annual medical clearance


Salary and Benefits
