Teach Astronomy and Beyond at a Premier Community College

Palo Verde Community College District invites applications for a part-time instructor of astronomy to teach classes within our approved discipline. As an instructor, you will be responsible for maintaining and updating curriculum relevant to the assigned instructional area. This position could involve assignments during day, evening weekends, and high-quality correspondence education modality. Training will be provided.
To be successful in this role, you must possess the minimum qualifications required for the discipline. These include a Master's in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics, or a Bachelor's in physics or astronomy with a Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics. Alternatively, you may have the equivalent qualifications. You should also demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, preferably at the community college level. Additional academic preparation enabling the instructor to teach in an additional discipline is also a plus. A firm commitment to the needs of students with diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and levels of ability with multi-cultural teaching experience is highly desirable.
We offer a temporary, part-time, hourly assignment with placement on the academic salary schedule determined by education and experience. Job Description
As an instructor of astronomy, you will be responsible for providing instruction in all areas of the approved discipline. You will prepare, evaluate, and revise courses and course materials, maintain organized sets of course and student records, and enforce the rules and regulations of the college. You will also utilize approved textbooks and follow the course objectives, course content, and evaluation standards as listed in the course outline.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for this position include a Master's in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics, or a Bachelor's in physics or astronomy with a Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics.
