Overview: The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for designing, organizing, and implementing engaging activity programs tailored to the interests and needs of residents in an assisted living environment, ensuring compliance with facility policies and relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members and undertake additional duties as assigned.
  • Exhibit strong leadership by upholding core values, addressing unacceptable behaviors, and maintaining open communication with supervised staff.
  • Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of activities that reflects the preferences and requirements of residents.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to provide entertainment and programs for residents.
  • Delegate tasks to staff and acknowledge their contributions.
  • Oversee the annual budget for the activities department.
  • Manage the department in alignment with regulatory standards and established protocols.
  • Consult with relevant personnel to plan and coordinate activities and events.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Listen to residents' feedback regarding activities.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of activity schedules.
  • Facilitate resident transportation to and from both in-house and community activities.
  • Organize decorations for holidays and special events.
  • Participate in required meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

  • Education: A one-year certificate in activities, social services, occupational therapy, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of three to six months in a related role, such as Activities Assistant, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting professional literature, writing assessments and reports, and presenting information to various stakeholders.
  • Mathematical Skills: Capable of performing basic calculations to manage departmental budgets and inventory.
  • Reasoning Ability: Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making, particularly in prioritizing tasks and interpreting policies.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in using email, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software for documentation and communication.

Physical Demands: The role requires regular interaction with residents, including standing, walking, and assisting with activities. The ability to lift and transport residents as needed is essential.

Work Environment: The work environment may vary, including exposure to various conditions typical of an assisted living facility. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
