Position Overview
This full-time role involves the planning, organization, and execution of engaging activity programs within an assisted living environment, tailored to meet the diverse interests and needs of residents while adhering to facility policies and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Collaboration and teamwork are essential, along with the following duties:
- Demonstrate effective leadership by upholding core values, addressing inappropriate behaviors, and maintaining open communication with supervised staff.
- Develop and curate a monthly activity calendar that reflects the preferences and requirements of residents.
- Coordinate with external vendors to provide entertainment and programs for residents.
- Delegate tasks to team members and acknowledge their contributions.
- Oversee the annual budget for the activities department.
- Ensure departmental operations comply with regulatory standards and established policies.
- Collaborate with relevant personnel to plan and organize activities and events.
Additional Duties
Responsibilities also include:
- Listening to residents' feedback regarding their activity preferences.
- Producing and distributing activity schedules.
- Facilitating resident transportation to and from in-house and community activities.
- Decorating for seasonal events and celebrations.
- Participating in required meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A one-year certificate in activities, social services, occupational therapy, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Three to six months of relevant experience as an Activities Assistant or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Completion of annual state-mandated training requirements.
Skills Required
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting professional literature and regulations related to geriatric activities.
- Ability to write assessments, progress notes, and reports.
- Strong mathematical skills for budget monitoring and inventory management.
- Reasoning abilities to address complex problems and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Competence in using email and software for documentation and reporting.
Physical and Mental Requirements
This position requires:
- Effective communication skills to interact with residents and staff.
- The ability to engage in physical activities, including standing, walking, and lifting.
- A capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
Work Environment
The work environment may include exposure to various conditions, including humidity, noise, and potential health risks associated with working in close proximity to residents.
