Position Summary
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for designing, organizing, and implementing engaging activity programs tailored to the interests and needs of residents in a senior living environment. This role ensures that all activities comply with facility policies and relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership by promoting core values, addressing inappropriate behaviors, and maintaining open communication with team members.
- Develop and distribute a monthly schedule of activities that reflects the preferences and needs of residents.
- Collaborate with external vendors to arrange entertainment and programs for residents.
- Delegate tasks to staff members and acknowledge their contributions.
- Oversee the annual budget for the activities department.
- Ensure departmental operations align with regulatory standards and established protocols.
- Work closely with other staff to plan and coordinate events and activities.
Additional Duties
- Actively listen to residents' feedback regarding activities.
- Manage the creation and distribution of activity schedules.
- Coordinate transportation for residents to and from in-house and community events.
- Decorate for seasonal events and celebrations.
- Participate in required meetings and training sessions.
Supervisory Role
This position involves direct supervision of departmental staff, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:
- A one-year certificate in activities, social services, occupational therapy, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Three to six months of relevant experience as an Activities Assistant or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Completion of annual state-mandated training requirements.
Skills and Abilities
Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interpret professional literature and engage with various stakeholders, including residents and their families. Proficiency in basic mathematical skills is required for budget management and inventory tracking.
Technical Proficiency
Familiarity with email communication, spreadsheet software, and word processing applications is essential for report generation and documentation maintenance.
Certifications
Optional certification as an Activity Director (ADC) is preferred, with a requirement for 30 continuing education credits every two years.
Physical and Mental Requirements
This role requires the ability to engage with residents actively, including standing, walking, and assisting with activities. Candidates must be able to lift and transport residents as needed.
Work Environment
The work environment may include exposure to various conditions typical of a senior living facility. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
