Job Summary

The Aircrew Program Manager is responsible for ensuring the adequacy of aircrew ground and flight training/testing and standards for specific aircraft of an assigned air carrier.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Principal Operations Inspector (POI).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops a work program to insure periodic surveillance of designated pilot and flight engineer examiners, pilot and flight engineer check airmen, and company training programs.
  • Assures the assigned air carrier conducts flight crew training and testing required by appropriate FARs, FAA-approved training programs, and current testing standards.
  • Oversees company check airmen and APDs.
  • Serves as the technical advisor to the POI on assigned areas of the company's training and testing programs.
  • Coordinates technical instructions, policy orders, and procedures through the POI to assure uniformity of training and testing activities.
  • Conducts enforcement investigations and prepares final reports and recommendations on disposition.
  • Performs or assists in the emergency suspension of airmen certificates.
  • Conducts re-examination of certificated airmen.
  • Conducts investigations of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents.
  • Provides verbal and/or written technical assistance to legal counsel, testifies at court trials and formal hearings, and gives depositions.
  • Coordinates with geographic inspectors for the accomplishment of nonroutine air carrier surveillance.
  • Recommends the designation of APD's and pilot examiners.
Requirements
  • Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot's License.
  • Must meet all medical requirements, including good distant vision, ability to hear conversational voice, and no physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience in Operations, equivalent to FG/GS-13 and/or FV-I level.
  • Must have at least 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight.
  • Must not have more than 2 flying accidents during the last 5 years in which the applicant's pilot error was involved.
  • Must have professional flying skill as demonstrated in a simulator check to Airline Transport Pilot Standard.
  • Must have minimum 100 flight hours during the last 3 years.
  • Must have Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
  • Must have minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
