Aircraft Mechanic Powerplant Job Description

The Aircraft Mechanic Powerplant is a critical role that requires advanced technical knowledge and skills to maintain and repair complex aircraft systems. As a member of our team at Amentum, you will be responsible for performing organizational, intermediate, and limited depot level maintenance on assigned aircraft, components, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair aircraft main, auxiliary, secondary power systems, fuel systems, engine level, and bleed air components.
  • Perform troubleshooting, testing, and repair of power plant systems, including replacing or repairing worn or damaged components.
  • Remove and inspect engine components, repair or replace defective parts, and reassemble and install the engine in the aircraft.
  • Read and interpret technical publications, procedures, and safety manuals to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years' experience within the last eight years in aircraft maintenance, with the last two years in the military or with a government aviation maintenance contractor.
  • Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention is essential.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.
  • Prior military personnel must present a Member 4 DD214 with an Honorable Discharge.
  • Valid State Driver's License required.
  • Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C, MH-60S aircraft is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in aircraft systems.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of maintenance and technical manuals, publications, and special tools and test equipment.
  • Familiarity with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems is essential.
  • Thorough working knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention, and treatment is required.
  • Customer-oriented and capable of cross-training into other specialties.
  • LICENSING, CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent.
  • Hazardous Waste Communication Training.
  • FOD and TCP Awareness Trained.
  • Security Clearance Awareness Training.
  • COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Program Awareness.
  • NALCOMIS/OOMA trained Preferred.
  • ESD Trained.
  • Support Equipment Operator's License (Tow Tractor, N2 Servicing Trailer, and Mobile Start Unit at a minimum).
  • Collateral Duty Inspector experience.
  • Egress System Checkout.
  • Plane Captain Qualified preferred.
  • Aircraft Towing Certified.
  • Aircraft Brake Rider Certified.
  • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
  • Fuel Surveillance Trained, Engine Run (1 T/M/S minimum) Troubleshooter/Final Checker Certified.
Working Environment:
  • This role is typically performed in a hangar/shop/flight line environment, requiring physical movements and postures associated with these activities.
  • May be required to lift objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Special vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, and extreme temperatures.
