Job Title: CMHC Staff Psychiatrist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate psychiatrist to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin. As a CMHC Staff Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality psychiatric care to undergraduate and graduate students.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations of students.
  • Determine and administer appropriate psychiatric treatment, including medication management.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications, as needed.
  • Review patient records to determine treatment effectiveness and appropriateness.
  • Update and maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with other mental health professionals on our multidisciplinary team.
  • Consult with physicians and mid-level practitioners from University Health Services.
  • Respond to consultation requests and referrals from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide emergency management and crisis intervention services.
  • Facilitate voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations.
  • Participate in training and supervision of psychiatric residents and fellows.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college of medicine with a doctoral degree in medicine (MD or DO).
  • Completion of an accredited ACGME psychiatric residency program.
  • Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or board eligibility with the expectation of securing certification within one year of hire.
  • Experience in direct outpatient psychiatric care, particularly with college-aged patients.
  • Knowledge of current assessment procedures, treatment methods, interventions, and medications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong orientation toward service to students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience in direct outpatient care following board certification.
  • Clinical experience in managing severe psychiatric illness in a hospital or partial hospital/intensive outpatient setting.
  • Experience providing outpatient psychiatric care in a university/college setting.
