About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Designer Associate to join our team at Express. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for determining and setting garment engineering standards for product development and final production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Designers and Merchants to understand design concepts and influence changes to ensure successful product development.
  • Establish and record technical specifications within Yunique to enable our global technical partners to develop high-quality products.
  • Lead fit sessions with Designers and Merchants, adhering to established EXP fit roles and responsibilities guidelines.
  • Evaluate products to predict and manage risk from design concept through final production approval.
  • Record fit session comments and ensure plan of action is clearly understood and aligned among cross-functional teams.
  • Utilize Gerber Accumark, Illustrator, and Vendor virtual sampling capabilities to expedite and communicate garment specifications and changes.
  • Track and manage all fit samples and packages.
  • Collaborate to arrange and manage Outlook planners for each fit session.
  • Calibrate new vendor technical partners.
  • Determine when a product is commercially approvable and ready for mass production.
  • Ensure content of all final Tech packs, including labeling, marketing, and packing requirements, are compliant with Express category standards.
  • Uphold and improve department-specific technical standards, record-keeping, processes, procedures, and tools.
Requirements
  • Education: College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of Technical Design experience within the apparel industry.
  • Proven communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
  • Recognized leadership abilities (within live fit sessions and cross-functional team meetings).
  • Sound understanding of department-specific construction, apparel factory operations, and patternmaking fundamentals.
  • Agility to multi-task and adapt to change.
  • Focus on risk assessment at all stages of product development.
  • Solution-oriented, consistently engaging TD leaders and cross-functional teams to solve problems and overcome challenges.
  • Ability to lead and influence through clear and consistent actions in a cross-functional team environment with limited support from a Technical Design leader.
  • Proficient user of Yunique, Adobe Illustrator CS6, Accumark 10.3, Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Actual compensation offered is dependent upon a number of factors, including work location, education, relevant skills, and experience of the candidate.
