Electrical Systems Technician II

GENERAL OVERVIEW

As an Electrical Systems Technician II, you will engage in advanced maintenance and repair tasks for electrical apparatus and circuits within the Department of Public Safety. Your responsibilities will include the installation, replacement, and upkeep of electrical systems, control panels, fixtures, and other components to ensure optimal performance and troubleshoot operational issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Install, repair, and maintain high voltage electrical systems, including transformers and distribution panels.
  2. Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical outlets, control panels, switches, and fixtures.
  3. Replace and reseat motor brushes, splice wires and cables, and adjust related equipment.
  4. Identify and rectify defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, and switches.
  5. Plan and oversee work projects, guiding and monitoring the performance of semi-skilled staff.
  6. Utilize skilled techniques to diagnose and resolve system malfunctions, ensuring the reliability of electrical connections and circuits.
  7. Document and report on installations, maintenance, and repairs, including materials and time spent on tasks.
  8. Provide training to maintenance personnel on electrical procedures and inspect their work for compliance with standards.
  9. Stay updated on technological advancements in electrical equipment through reading and training.
  10. Maintain regular attendance and adhere to agency policies regarding leave and attendance.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Completion of high school or equivalent, with vocational training in electrical systems.

Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant experience in the installation and maintenance of complex electrical systems.

Licensure: A valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Apprentice Electrician License is required, along with a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

Knowledge Requirements: Familiarity with TXDPS regulations, the National Electrical Code, and NFPA Fire Code is essential. A thorough understanding of electrical principles, practices, and diagnostic procedures is necessary.

Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and proficiency in technology are required. Must demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Demands: The role may require standing, walking, and lifting weights up to 100 pounds. Availability for after-hours and weekend work may be necessary.
