Job Summary

The Senior Athletic Trainer is a key member of the sports medicine team at Texas Woman's University, responsible for assisting in the management of the athletic training program. This role involves providing athletic training services, including injury prevention, care, and rehabilitation, for all University NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the athletic training program.
  • Provide athletic training services, including injury prevention, care, and rehabilitation, for all University NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • Serve as the primary athletic trainer for designated teams.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care for athletic-related injuries and determine appropriate medical referral as warranted.
  • Organize and direct pre-participation physical exams and postural and body composition screenings.
  • Purchase, inventory, and monitor all supplies and equipment for athletic training.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential injury record management for all applicable injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist with implementation of drug, alcohol, and substance awareness education.
  • Authorize, maintain, and direct the use of the athletic training facility and equipment, including safety checks.
  • Maintain lines of communication with student-athletes, coaches, the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine, and the Director of Athletics concerning student-athlete participation and the current status of an injury or medical problem.
  • Educate student-athletes and staff regarding institutional, departmental, and NCAA healthcare policies and procedures or other athletic training-related topics, at annual orientations and as needed.
  • Communicate and work directly with head coaches and the Head Sports Performance Coach in the design and execution of scientifically-based, sports-specific strength and conditioning programs for each team as needed.
  • Work with the Head Sports Performance Coach to ensure proper conditioning modifications in the presence of injury.
  • Serve as a liaison between Intercollegiate Athletics and attending physicians, Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and visiting athletic training staffs.
  • Commit to and be responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the University, the Lone Star Conference, and the NCAA with the utmost integrity.
  • Work cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represent the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media, and general public.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Share knowledge and promote athletic training and TWU through clinics, workshops, and lecture opportunities.
  • Participate, as appointed, on department, university, state, regional, and national committees.
  • Assist in fundraising activities.
  • Implement Athletics' strategic plan as part of the Division of Student Life's strategic plan.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Master's degree required.
  • State of Texas Athletic Training license required.
  • NATABOC certification required.
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • First Aid and CPR Instructor preferred.
  • Five years minimum of collegiate athletic training experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to provide qualified and adequate athletic training coverage for student-athletes.
  • Ability to recruit and provide a healthy learning environment for student athletic trainers.
  • Ability to coordinate work with other employees, providing direct instruction or supervision as assigned.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations of the university, the Lone Star Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Ability to follow directives and be responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
  • Ability to attend seminars, meetings, and other professional development opportunities at or away from TWU.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize, and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively - orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including university software and email.
