ICU/PCU Overview


Our integrated PCU and ICU is a specialized 10-bed unit designed to manage high-acuity patients without the need for patient transfers between units. The spacious rooms facilitate efficient movement while delivering critical care.

We offer a comprehensive orientation program supported by our clinical education team, focusing on essential skills such as ACLS, PALS, Basic Arrhythmias, ICU Core training, Critical Drips, and Moderate Sedation. We prioritize self-care, providing a respite area within the unit where staff can unwind with soothing music, tea, and creative activities.


Patient Ratios: ICU 1 RN: 2 Patients, PCU 1: 3-4 Patients

Position Summary:
Responsible for delivering competent clinical nursing care aligned with professional standards. The Clinical Nurse reports to the Nurse Manager/Director and is accountable for coordinating and providing patient care using the nursing process in a hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Education: Engage in identifying and addressing personal learning needs. Attend educational programs based on these needs and utilize relevant patient education materials. Assess the readiness to learn of patients and their families.
  • Care Evaluation: Identify expected patient outcomes and seek guidance for care plan revisions. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care and ensure continuity.
  • Implementation: Exhibit proficiency in caring for patients with complex health issues, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Perform necessary bedside testing as per the care plan.
  • Leadership: Collaborate in setting professional growth goals and participate in unit goals and performance improvement initiatives. Promote a safe and secure healthcare environment.
  • Patient Assessment: Analyze complex data to prioritize care, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Build relationships with families to support patient advocacy.
  • Planning: Work with patients and families to develop or update care plans, utilizing multidisciplinary resources and addressing cultural considerations.
  • Research: Stay informed by reading relevant journals and discussing applicable ideas with colleagues.

Additional Information:

Education Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
