Job Title: Utilities Field Supervisor

Join the City of Seaside, CA team as a Utilities Field Supervisor and play a crucial role in maintaining the city's water and sewer systems. As a key member of the Public Works department, you will be responsible for supervising a team of maintenance staff, ensuring the efficient operation of the city's utilities infrastructure, and providing technical assistance to the Maintenance and Utilities Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage a team of maintenance staff, providing guidance and training to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Plan, organize, and assign work to ensure the efficient operation of the city's utilities infrastructure, including water and sewer systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the city's utilities infrastructure to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols to ensure the well-being of staff and the public.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the efficient operation of the Public Works department.
Requirements:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, and five (5) years of skilled maintenance program experience in assigned area, two (2) of which should be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Possession of a Class B drivers license with proper endorsements or obtain within twelve months of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Grade II Water Distribution certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Grade I Water Treatment certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Cross Connection Control Specialist certificate or obtain within twelve months of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Grade I Sewer certificate or obtain within twelve months of hire.
Working Conditions:

The Utilities Field Supervisor will work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer. They will also work in and around City streets, storm drains, sanitary systems, and related facilities. The job involves frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work in and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
