Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Unit Nurse will provide professional nursing care to a group of assigned patients within the hospital. This role will collaborate with the medical staff and other members of the healthcare team to deliver quality patient care. The successful candidate will perform all activities in accordance with approved policies and guidelines, and will supervise and delegate appropriate duties to ancillary personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients, including physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age-appropriate, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
  • Develop and implement plans of care, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
  • Discuss assessment parameters and scoring for CIWA, and define treatment guidelines based on assessment findings/scores.
  • Document patient care given, and monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patients and/or family, and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state compact license).
  • 1-3 years of recent acute care experience within the past 3 years preferred.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS); Handle with care within 4 months of hire.
