Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Certified Surgical Technician to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our surgical services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing quality patient care in a patient-focused, technically appropriate, and cost-effective manner.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field, a safe patient care environment, and appropriate supplies/equipment as required for the operative procedure.
  • Function as a cooperative healthcare team member in a critical care environment, treating patients with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain professional growth by demonstrating self-direction in maintaining professional skills, independently completing assignments/projects, and participating in unit/hospital committees and projects.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide a cooperative work environment, assisting with maintaining goals of Surgical Services and Advocate, sharing clinical and professional knowledge in a supportive/educational manner, and demonstrating self-direction in utilizing work time appropriately.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures, maintaining patient confidentiality, utilizing guest relation techniques with members of the healthcare team and patients, and performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Prepare the surgical field and supplies/instruments delivered to the field, verifying instrument/supply/equipment availability and readiness per physician preference card, verifying specific needs of the physician by completely reading scrub tips, assisting in opening sterile supplies and instruments, assisting with clean up and turnover upon completion of the case, efficiently utilizing supplies to avoid waste and decrease costs, restocking room supplies as needed, and preparing for the following day.
  • Perform duties in the scrub role as assigned, completely preparing the sterile field in a timely manner, complying with departmental policy and procedures regarding specimens, counts, and disposition of contaminated instruments, maintaining the sterile field and boundaries prior to and during the procedure, acting as a preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner, maintaining on-call availability, assisting in emergency situations as assigned, maintaining a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards, maintaining education records and timecards, and maintaining competencies.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Completion of CST program
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to independently perform scrub duties
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting (lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 or 50 pounds frequently and/or lifting 10 to 20 pounds constantly)
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others
  • Ability to communicate with a mask on and not facing others
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints
  • Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to assume on-call responsibility
Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening disease and radiation
  • This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to use patient handling equipment when necessary
