Position Overview
The Director of Construction will report directly to the Executive Director and work collaboratively to ensure the strategic planning, coordination, and successful execution of all assigned projects. This role includes overseeing a team of Construction Managers, each with diverse expertise, managing multiple concurrent projects.
Preconstruction Responsibilities:
- Engage with project team members to establish standardized preconstruction processes.
- Facilitate and finalize project budgets and schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Construction Responsibilities:
- Supervise the execution of construction activities, including contract management and vendor selection.
- Allocate resources effectively and uphold best practices in project controls and safety measures.
- Enhance quality assurance protocols and oversee commissioning and turnover processes.
General Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with OCP staff, university officials, and regulatory agencies to mitigate impacts on campus operations.
- Review and advise on standards and policies for complex construction projects.
Key Duties:
- Lead diverse project teams on multiple complex projects.
- Monitor performance of construction management firms and subcontractors to ensure compliance.
- Track project milestones and implement remedial solutions as necessary.
- Manage construction schedules and budgets to ensure timely project completion.
- Secure timely issuance of contracts and key project documents.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of all projects and report on progress and costs.
- Participate in capital budget preparation and project coordination.
- Utilize project management software for analysis and reporting.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders in the planning and execution of construction programs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement effective solutions.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion goals within the role.
- Ensure compliance with safety assessments and interim life safety measures.
- Provide timely recommendations to decision-makers regarding project changes.
- Stay informed on industry best practices for enhanced project delivery.
- Represent the department on various committees and task forces.
- Deliver presentations to diverse audiences regarding project status and construction processes.
- Identify potential disputes and claims in project design and construction.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
- 10+ years of project management experience, including supervision of project managers.
- Experience managing major capital construction projects.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient in project management software and tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate-level education or professional licensure.
