Position Overview

The City of Pearland, TX is looking for a dedicated Treatment Plant Operator I - Wastewater to enhance and oversee the daily functions of our Utilities department.

Compensation
The Treatment Plant Operator I - Wastewater receives a competitive hourly wage of $22.27, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The city also covers all premiums for dental, long-term disability, and life insurance, in addition to a significant portion of the medical premiums for employees and their families. We provide a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) featuring a 2:1 employer match, along with life insurance, disability coverage, access to the city's fitness center, employee assistance programs, educational support, 11 paid holidays, 2 designated paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and a proactive wellness initiative focusing on physical, mental, and financial well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct sampling, monitoring, and testing to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing wastewater treatment processes, stormwater management, and sludge handling.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Safety and Health Act Regulations while performing duties.
  • Collect wastewater samples and conduct onsite laboratory testing in accordance with TCEQ regulations.
  • Inspect the facility to gather data from hour meters, verify pump operations, initiate centrifuge processes for sludge management, and identify and resolve issues.
  • Perform maintenance on wastewater treatment equipment and manage basin upkeep.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in wastewater operations or a closely related field.
Certifications and Licenses Required:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License
  • Class C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License (Preferred)
