A Day in the Life of a Customer Service Representative
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this role is to execute clerical tasks related to the water utility billing process, assist customers with inquiries regarding water and sewer services, and ensure customer satisfaction in a fast-paced setting.
This position operates under close to general supervision, following established procedures while determining the best approach to complete tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Complete daily deposit forms in collaboration with Customer Service Representative II or Customer Service Supervisor.
- Reconcile cash drawers daily and submit to Customer Service Representative II or Customer Service Supervisor.
- Assist customers with utility billing inquiries and resolve complaints via phone, in-person, email, and mail.
- Review and process applications for new service and service discontinuation.
- Process payments received from customers through various channels.
- Input new deposits, disconnects, transfers, and rectify errors in the computer database.
- Prepare work orders for utility disconnections, reconnections, and other service requests.
- Notify residents regarding service termination due to non-payment.
- Compile and maintain various reports.
- Contribute to team efforts by performing additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in cash collections and customer service is required.
- Experience in public contact roles within a call center or fast-paced environment is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Two (2) years of extensive public contact experience in customer service or collection agency roles with cash handling experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License is required.
