Position Overview:

The role of the Buyer is critical in the Supply Chain Management team, focusing on the procurement of chassis, tanks, van bodies, trailers, parts, and materials essential for the assembly of petroleum tank trucks, trailers, and lube units. The Buyer is also responsible for establishing and maintaining item data within the inventory management system.

Supervisory Duties:

This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Purchase Order Management (30%):

  • Generate and issue purchase orders for chassis, box vans, trailers, tank components, and materials to approved suppliers.
  • Manage ongoing purchase orders by modifying existing orders, creating change orders, and taking necessary actions to expedite, defer, or cancel orders.
  • Confirm vendor orders to ensure compliance with specifications regarding price, quantity, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor late deliveries and engage with suppliers to determine root causes and establish new delivery schedules.

2. Specification Development and Procurement (20%):

  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of the New Unit Production Schedule, focusing on chassis, tank, and trailer delivery timelines.

3. Unique Parts and Materials Sourcing (10%):

  • Identify and source special-order parts and materials, evaluating suppliers for quality and cost-effectiveness while determining ordering parameters such as pricing and lead times.
  • Engage in vendor price negotiations and performance evaluations to foster strong supplier relationships.

4. Item Data Management (15%):

  • Input and maintain parts and materials data in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, including pricing, order allocations, and subcontracted services.
  • Ensure item data remains current by updating specifications such as pricing in the ERP system.

5. Planning and Scheduling (15%):

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the New Unit Production Schedule, focusing on delivery dates for chassis, van bodies, tanks, and trailers.

6. Invoicing Facilitation and MSO Acquisition (10%):

  • Oversee the invoicing process for chassis and trailer asset purchases, ensuring the acquisition of Manufacturer's Statements of Origin (MSOs).

Required Skills:

  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Physical Requirements:

This role is primarily office-based, requiring sedentary work with occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs of force.

Equipment and Software:

Utilization of office equipment such as telephones, computers, photocopiers, fax machines, and scanners is required. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet navigation, and ERP/MRP systems is essential.
