Job Overview

The City of Alamo Heights Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Police Dispatcher. This position requires individuals who meet specific criteria to ensure effective communication and coordination in emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least nineteen (19) years old.
  • Licensure Standards: Must meet the minimum standards for licensure as outlined by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE), unless otherwise specified.
  • Educational Background: A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least one of the following qualifications:
    • Completion of the Basic Telecommunications Operator Certification Course (preferred).
    • An active Texas telecommunications operator license (preferred).
    • Successful completion of the NCIC/TCIC, TLETS Certification Course (40 hours) (preferred).
  • Moral Character: Applicants must demonstrate good moral character, consistent with the standards for Police Officers.
  • Language Proficiency: Ability to read and write in English is essential.
  • Military Service: Must not have been discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions.
  • Criminal History: Applicants must not have any disqualifying criminal convictions, including:
    • Class B misdemeanors within the last ten (10) years.
    • Current indictment for any criminal offense.
    • Convictions for family violence offenses.
    • State jail felonies or felony offenses at any time.
    • Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs within the last twenty-four months.
  • Driver's License: A valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Additional Requirements

Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, candidates must:

  • Undergo a medical examination by a licensed physician selected by the City of Alamo Heights.
  • Pass a drug screening test.

All candidates must adhere to the licensing standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Continued employment is contingent upon meeting all job standards and training requirements.
