Position Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist possesses sufficient training and experience to perform independent professional respiratory care diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, clinical evaluation of care, and establishment of therapeutic objectives. They work in acute critical and/or life-threatening patient care areas and situations, with the final authority, judgment, and clinical decision-making responsibility resting with a physician.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree (or Bachelor's Degree preferred)
  • Demonstration of proficient skills for ventilator management
  • Clinical evaluation skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Good time management skills
  • Active membership in the AARC and AARC state affiliation (preferred)
  • Participation in activities that further professional growth for self and the department (preferred)
Job Functions

The Respiratory Therapist will:

  • Operate various types of mechanical ventilators, airway management, and administering medical gas therapy as needed
  • Administer respiratory therapy inhaled medications, bronchopulmonary hygiene/drainage, and assist with breathing exercises
  • Evaluate the effects of respiratory therapy treatments by observing, noting, and evaluating patient progress, recommending adjustments and modifications
  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques
  • Transport mechanically ventilated patients internally and externally
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending continuing education workshops
  • Document patient care services received in MedHost the Electronic Medical Record
  • Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment
