Overview:
Join Covenant Health as a Chemotherapy Pharmacy Technician within our Infusion Services team.

This is a PRN/OCC position with variable hours during the day shift.

As part of our dedicated team, you will have the opportunity to float between various infusion centers, assisting in filling staffing gaps.

As a key player in our oncology services, you will have access to a wide range of drug-based treatments and the latest clinical trial options, enhancing patient care.


Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, you will perform essential functions related to the dispensing of chemotherapy medications.

Your technical responsibilities will encompass proficiency in IV processes, problem-solving skills, and the safe admixture of hazardous medications, while actively participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Strong leadership abilities, along with effective written and verbal communication skills, are essential to support the overall goals of the department.

Responsibilities:
- Execute all accountabilities and performance criteria for pharmacy technicians at levels I and II.

- Assist pharmacists in training new technicians at levels I and II.

- Initiate and coordinate improvement activities as necessary.

- Support the implementation of new projects, including the development of relevant policies and procedures.

- Demonstrate knowledge and competency in addressing the specific needs of the oncology patient population.

- Accurately perform calculations to prepare, compound, and dispense chemotherapy medications.

- Collaborate with pharmacists in preparing compounds, chemotherapy, and intravenous medications based on physician orders.

- Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including stocking and reconciling invoices for chemotherapy medications and supplies.

- Ensure the cleanliness and safety of biological safety cabinets through daily cleaning and decontamination.


- Maintain the integrity of clean rooms by conducting monthly air and surface testing for microbial surveillance.

Understand the gauges used to monitor air pressure in various rooms and take appropriate action if readings are outside acceptable limits.

- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when preparing chemotherapy agents.

- Adhere to guidelines for the safe handling of hazardous waste.

- Maintain the Investigational Drug supply in strict compliance with regulatory requirements.

- Follow established policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing all required education assignments annually. Engage in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:


No specific educational requirements; however, candidates must meet the standards for the necessary licensure and/or certification as mandated by the relevant authority.


Minimum Experience:


A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the storage, handling, and disposal of chemotherapy drugs, or two (2) years of experience with state-approved certification.


Licensure Requirement:


Newly hired probationary employees must obtain licensure from the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy within their first 90 days of employment and maintain active status thereafter.
