Veterinary Mentorship Initiative

Norfolk, Virginia, United States IndeVets Full time

Program Overview:

Embark on your veterinary journey with the IndeVet Associate role: a first position so exceptional, you won't seek another.

We have merged the stability of associate work with the flexibility of relief work to create the IndeVets experience. This means you will receive fair compensation for all the hours you dedicate, comprehensive benefits, and complete control over your schedule, supported by a community of fellow veterinarians who understand and aim to help you flourish in your profession.

The IndeVets GP Rotating Mentorship Initiative is a thorough, compensated mentorship program tailored specifically for new and recent graduates. This initiative is designed to empower you to transition into a full-time veterinary career with greater confidence and hands-on assistance. If you are an established veterinarian considering a shift into small animal general practice, this program is also crafted for you.

As a fully compensated IndeVet, you will receive:

  • Six months of practical experience in clinical environments, with your mentor providing real-time guidance.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of care settings, including corporate, private, shelters, and specialties.
  • Weekly consultations with your Director of Clinical Excellence, who will mentor you, provide insights on achieving your objectives, and be available to listen during challenging times.
  • Access to our IndeVets GP Clinical Certification course, enhancing the extensive knowledge acquired in veterinary school.
  • Hands-on training sessions covering ultrasound, surgery, and dentistry.
  • Certification in Fear-Free and BlendVet (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging).
  • Training in communication and conflict resolution.
  • A plethora of mental health and wellness resources, including access to our veterinary social worker for one-on-one support.
  • A 'Me-time Money' stipend for anything that promotes your mental or physical well-being.
  • 24/7 access to our private clinical channel on the IndeVets App, akin to a group chat with hundreds of knowledgeable peers from veterinary school.
  • Collaboration with our Veterinary Social Worker, who partners with you and your clinical leadership team to provide support during challenging moments.

Basic clinical requirements for participation in the program include:

  • Availability to work a minimum of 34 hours per week.
  • Possession of an active veterinary license/DEA license/CDS license (if applicable) or the ability to apply for a license in the state of employment.
  • A willingness to embrace feedback and collaboration.
  • A strong desire to develop clinical skills and excel in client communication.
  • All the best benefits without the burnout.
  • First-year salaried compensation based on 30 hours per week in the clinic with a mentor and 10 hours per week for remote training and support.
  • A variety of medical, dental, and vision insurance options, including two fully covered medical plans.
  • Continuing Education allowance (plus additional paid time off for CE) and license reimbursement.
  • Paid Parental Leave.
  • 401(k) and Roth 401(k) contributions with a 100% employer match up to the first 4%, with no vesting period.
  • IndeVestment Revenue Share Plan allowing you to participate in the financial growth of the company.
  • A dedicated stipend to cover your needs for improved mental and physical health.
  • Company-paid short-term disability insurance.
  • Company-paid professional liability insurance (similar to your PLIT, but at no cost to you).
  • Membership perks: significantly discounted memberships to VIN, VETgirl, Fear Free certification, and more.
  • Generous paid time off.
