Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in the Primary Care department at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional healthcare services.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, including interviewing patients, performing general systems appraisals, and collecting objective and subjective data.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses and Providers to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Contribute to the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient treatment and follow-up healthcare.
  • Collaborate with members of other services regarding changes in patients' conditions, laboratory results, responses to treatment plans, and other pertinent parameters of care.
  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, including preparing patients, assisting in diagnostic examinations, preparing and handling specialized instruments or equipment, and monitoring patients' conditions before, during, and following procedures.
  • Modify patient care plans in accordance with recognized nursing standards and prescribed treatment.
  • Meet patients' needs through direct physical care and psychosocial intervention, and assume responsibility for nursing management of unstable patients whose nursing care needs are not predictable.
  • Provide patient/significant other instruction regarding common medications.
  • Recognize emergency situations, respond promptly, and institute appropriate actions.
  • Support patients and/or family members/significant others in the integration of the patient care plan toward achievement of discharge objectives.
  • Establish constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication, and socialization skills.
  • Foster an environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.
  • Effectively incorporate knowledge and understanding of established customer service standards in all interactions with patients, family members, and/or other internal/external customers.
  • Serve as a preceptor in orienting, educating, and training less experienced LPNs/LVNs or NAs/HTs, and actively seek out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills, sharing new knowledge gained with other staff to improve and advance nursing practice.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program.
  • Must meet the basic requirements for the GS-6 grade level, including completion of at least one year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
Preferred Experience

Clinic experience is highly desired.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
