Overview:

As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team of Rehabilitation and educational professionals, this role fosters a supportive professional practice atmosphere and encourages collaborative relationships across OU Health. The Education and Research Specialist acts as a catalyst for change, mentor, and leader, fully endorsing the Rehabilitation Student program, evidence-based practices, and professional growth initiatives within OU Health.

Key Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are essential to the role. Failure to fulfill these responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, may lead to disqualification from the position.

  • In collaboration with clinical department leaders and various nursing, ancillary, and support department leaders, works to effectively address the educational needs of OU Health Rehabilitation Services.
  • Communicates proficiently, both in writing and verbally, across all levels of OU Health to foster a positive practice environment.
  • Provides educational leadership and expertise within OU Health (OUH) regarding Rehabilitation Services to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Participates in one or more committees responsible for supporting core OUH orientation and ongoing education/professional development activities.
  • Demonstrates and applies expertise related to evidence-based standards of practice in Rehabilitation Services, including the development and application of guidelines, curriculum design for professional development, orientation/onboarding, and competency management.
  • Collaborates with leaders, clinical experts, and colleagues throughout OUH to identify educational needs and practice gaps, designing programs to address these areas within Rehabilitation Services.
  • The Education and Research Specialist is expected to maintain clinical proficiency in their area of expertise while also providing support across all Rehabilitation Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Rehabilitation program.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience, including a combination of relevant clinical/technical practice, educational responsibilities, and/or leadership roles.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Current licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist. Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated program management skills and experience in clinical professional development. Understanding of normal speech, language, and hearing development, along with the ability to train others. Capability to conduct diagnostic assessments for communication disorders and develop treatment plans. Must engage with clients and students in a patient and supportive manner to understand their communication needs and assist them in achieving their specific program goals. Strong interpersonal skills with customers, colleagues, and clients are essential.
