Rehabilitation Education and Research Leader

Overview:

As an integral part of a collaborative team of Rehabilitation and educational professionals, this role fosters a positive professional practice atmosphere and encourages inter-professional partnerships within OU Health. The coordinator for research and education acts as a catalyst for change, a mentor, and a leader, fully endorsing the Rehabilitation Student program, evidence-based practices, and ongoing professional development initiatives at OU Health.

Key Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are essential to this position. Failure to perform these duties, with or without reasonable accommodation, may lead to disqualification from the role.

  • In collaboration with clinical department leaders and support from various nursing and ancillary departments, works to effectively address the educational requirements of OU Health Rehabilitation Services.
  • Facilitates clear communication, both in writing and verbally, across all levels of OU Health to nurture a healthy practice environment.
  • Provides educational leadership and expertise related to Rehabilitation Services within OU Health to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Participates in one or more committees responsible for supporting core orientation and continuing education/professional development initiatives.
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of evidence-based standards of practice within Rehabilitation Services, including the development and application of guidelines, curriculum for professional development, onboarding, and competency management.
  • Collaborates with leaders, clinical experts, and colleagues throughout OU Health to identify educational needs and practice gaps, designing programs to address these needs within Rehabilitation Services.
  • The Research and Education Coordinator is expected to maintain clinical proficiency in their area of expertise while providing support across all Rehabilitation Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Rehabilitation program.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience, including a combination of relevant clinical/technical practice, educational responsibilities, and/or leadership roles.

Licenses/Certifications Required:

Current licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Speech-Language Pathologist. Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated program management capabilities and experience in clinical professional development. Understanding of normal speech, language, and hearing development, along with the ability to instruct others. Competence in conducting diagnostic assessments for communication disorders and formulating treatment plans. Ability to engage with clients and students in a supportive manner to comprehend their communication needs and assist them in achieving their specific program goals. Strong interpersonal skills with clients, colleagues, and customers.
