Job Summary

Hill's Pet Nutrition is seeking a highly skilled Food Safety Technician to join our team. As a Food Safety Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our pet food products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facility Compliance: Assist with facility compliance to internal standards and federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory and Company Standards: Monitor, enforce, and maintain regulatory and company food safety program standards to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • HACCP and Pre-requisite Programs: Support plant HACCP and pre-requisite programs by reviewing, documenting compliance, non-conformances, and providing training for the plant.
  • Documents and Records: Maintain required documents for internal and external audits and requirements.
  • Budgets: Manage multiple budgets to ensure spending is maintained within budget.
  • Third Party Management: Oversee and liaise with third-party sanitation crews.
  • Inspection and Audits: Audit internal processes against food safety standards to identify gaps and implement improvements.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee assigned vendors to maintain relationships and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Training: Maintain, update, and provide food safety training to shift technicians and new employees.
  • Quality: Perform daily quality and food safety checks to ensure product compliance to Hill's standards.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 3+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of microbiology and aseptic technique, basic understanding of chemistry and sanitation procedures, including chemical titrations.
  • Computer Skills: Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • HERO's Membership: Willingness to become a HERO's member within 3 months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in a related field (chemistry, biology, microbiology, food science).
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of quality and food safety standards.
  • Certifications: Willingness to obtain HACCP certification and SQF Practitioner certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Safety and GMPs: Knowledge of and compliance with safety, GMPs, and environmental procedures and regulations.
  • Work Schedule: Ability to be flexible regarding work schedules and shift rotations.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to work in a standard manufacturing environment, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
