Job Title: Food Safety Technician

Join Hill's Pet Nutrition as a Food Safety Technician and play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our pet food products.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Safety Technician to join our team. As a Food Safety Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with facility compliance to both internal standards and federal and state regulatory requirements. You will monitor, enforce, and maintain regulatory and company food safety program standards to ensure policies and procedures are followed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support plant HACCP and pre-requisite programs by reviewing, documenting compliance, non-conformances, and providing training for the plant.
  • Maintain required documents for internal and external audits and requirements.
  • Assist in the notification, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventative measures for food safety non-conformances and all-encompassing documentation.
  • Prepare, review, and update food safety standard operating procedures and related forms to comply with regulatory and company standards.
  • Manage multiple budgets to ensure spending is maintained within budget.
  • Oversee and liaise with third-party sanitation crews.
  • Audit internal processes against food safety standards to identify gaps and implement improvements to plant systems.
  • Monitor and look for abnormalities in the food safety program, continuously looking for ways to improve these processes and programs.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Basic understanding of microbiology and aseptic technique.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and sanitation procedures, including chemical titrations.
  • Computer application experience in SAP, OPERA, with intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • HERO's membership (if currently not a member, willing to become one within 3 months).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field (chemistry, biology, microbiology, food science).
  • Knowledge of quality and food safety standards.
  • Willingness to obtain HACCP certification and SQF Practitioner certification.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a standard manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in an environment with a wide range of temperature variation and humidity.
  • Ability to lift varied capacities over a specified time period.
  • Ability to work with hands overhead occasionally.
  • Ability to bend at waist 90 degrees and flex at knees 120 degrees.
  • Ability to climb steps and/or ladders.
  • Ability to perceive visual and audible alarms and telephones while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to perform tasks with vision corrected to a minimum of 20/40, with full peripheral vision for forklift driving.
Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $54,400.00 - $68,000.00 USD. Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors, including experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills, and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package, including insurance, retirement plans, vacation/PTO, paid holidays, paid sick leave, and paid parental leave.
