POSITION OVERVIEW


The Sales Associate plays a vital role in guiding customers through their purchasing journey. This includes welcoming them, managing cash transactions, and packaging purchased items.

The Sales Associate is expected to embody a friendly, respectful, and professional demeanor while adhering to the core values of Goodwill, which include Empowerment, Public Trust, Respect, Innovation, Quality, and Safety.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver outstanding customer service by welcoming patrons, assisting in product selection, and suggesting complementary items. Maintain a tidy and organized store environment, which encompasses restocking shelves, returning items to their designated locations, rearranging products as needed, cleaning, and performing other maintenance tasks. Ensure proper inventory rotation and manage unsold items. Collaborate with store leadership and fellow associates to ensure that donations are efficiently processed and displayed for sale. Support the store in achieving its sales targets.
  • Conduct sales transactions using a point-of-sale system, accurately handling cash and providing change to customers. Perform cash drawer reconciliations at the start and end of shifts. Safeguard the cash register and store inventory while remaining vigilant to prevent theft.
  • Provide coverage for other sales associates during breaks, meal times, and emergencies.
  • Address customer inquiries and complaints courteously, escalating issues to the Store Manager or Crew Leader when necessary.
  • Maintain reliable attendance, uphold personal grooming standards, and adhere to the dress code, including wearing company-issued identification. Participate in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Follow and enforce safety and loss prevention protocols to protect personnel and property.
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental and organizational goals.
  • Comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exhibit exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Capable of multitasking while remaining attentive to customer needs and adaptable to business demands.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a respectful and cooperative manner.
  • Work well as part of a team and take initiative when working independently.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and effective communication.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required.
  • Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience operating a cash register.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and in environments that may be humid or dusty.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. or more with assistance.
