AWS Infrastructure Services manages the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In essence, we are the team that ensures the cloud remains operational. We support all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that guarantee our customers continuous access to the innovations they depend on. We tackle some of the most complex challenges, with numerous variables influencing the supply chain, and we seek talented individuals who are eager to contribute.

Key Responsibilities

You will collaborate closely with our clients in AWS Energy to grasp their technical requirements and business objectives, utilizing your expertise in power generation (both combustion and renewable) design and the insights from various teams to architect scalable solutions.

Specific responsibilities of the Energy Solutions Engineer include:

  • Leading initiatives within the global team as well as among internal and external partners supporting our data centers.
  • Gathering requirements and transforming ambitious company or client objectives into clearly defined, achievable, and testable specifications and solutions.
  • Conducting feasibility studies, designing, and constructing utility-scale generation facilities, energy storage systems, and related substations.
  • Creating design proposals that meet or exceed quality standards while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Collaborating with teams or individuals from diverse disciplines, cultures, and countries to produce a comprehensive construction document set.
  • Participating in site selection evaluations.
  • Engaging with local utilities and grid operators to clarify interconnection requirements.
  • Working with internal teams to comprehend user/customer needs.
  • Coordinating with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify suitable electrical equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with IEEE/ANSI, UL, IEC, EU standards, and building codes through collaboration with local authorities.
  • Reviewing and approving equipment submissions, including testing and commissioning requirements.
  • Defining project scope and providing technical support for information requests during research and development initiatives.
  • Collaborating with commissioning teams to prepare scripts and effectively test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively with individuals of varying technical expertise and backgrounds.
  • Producing clear and concise documentation, including detailed design specifications, functional test scripts, reports, and version release notes.
  • Understanding and ensuring the implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) through ongoing audits.
  • Traveling to sites for evaluations and collaborating with onsite field engineers, as well as conducting engineering assessments and electrical systems audits as necessary.
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects across various geographical regions.
  • Fostering a fun environment and proposing innovative, out-of-the-box solutions.
