Ammonia Refrigeration Operator Job Description

SK Food Group is seeking an experienced Ammonia Refrigeration Operator to join our team in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate, maintain, and repair all aspects of the ammonia refrigeration system, including sub-systems and auxiliary processes.
  • Manage 3rd party vendors for ammonia refrigeration and utility systems.
  • Maintain the material integrity of refrigeration and utility rooms according to established best practices.
  • Perform ammonia system pump downs for repairing or replacing refrigeration parts.
  • Complete documentation as required, including PSM-related modifications, Work Orders, and refrigeration system notes.
  • Conduct daily rounds and inspections of temperatures and conditions of the ammonia system.
  • Perform chemical tests on boilers and condenser towers.
  • Monitor and maintain glycol and electrical underfloor heating systems, fire and ammonia alarms, and electrical usage of the refrigeration system.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on process refrigeration, HVAC, boilers, and compressed air equipment.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least six years of manufacturing experience, including three years of direct experience supporting industrial ammonia refrigeration.
  • Ammonia Certification from GCAP (NH3 Operator III or higher) or RETA (CIRO/CRST).
  • Extensive knowledge of operating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, hot water, domestic cold water, and compressed air systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and refrigeration issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of General Maintenance and Electrical and Electronic Systems.
  • Experience with controls, PLCs, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to pass respirator fit test and Pulmonary function test, as well as 24-hour hazmat class.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and individually with little or no supervision at times.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Willingness to work weekends and various shifts to support business needs.
