Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Construction Supervisor to join our team at Cape Fear Public Utility Authority. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for supervising the maintenance of all infrastructure outfalls and construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train, assign, direct, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and discipline personnel.
  • Make field inspections to supervise the work of personnel.
  • Install, maintain, repair, clean, and mow right of ways, outfalls, easements, access points, etc.
  • Work with state agencies for permission and required paperwork in state-maintained rights-of-ways.
  • Train, work, and lead crews in all aspects of work assignments.
  • Monitor job site and staff to ensure compliance with safety rules and standards.
  • Develop programs for personnel to enhance equipment efficiency and maintenance schedules.
  • Operate heavy equipment, trailers, and trucks.
  • Read maps, drawings, diagrams, blueprints, construction drawings, as built plans, and survey maps that identify easements and right-of-ways.
  • Perform preventative erosion control measures.
  • Ensure compliance with 14001 CFPUA policy.
  • Oversee the placement of matting for heavy equipment crossings and work platforms in swamps, marshes, ditches, and various creek crossings, embankments, etc.
  • Communicate with the public regarding construction projects.
  • Perform inventory/property management.
  • This position is a member of the organization management team and is responsible for demonstrating and holding others accountable to the CFPUA values.
  • This position is required to work in partnership with their own department and all other CFPUA departments toward achieving organizational goals.
  • This position is responsible for creating a culture of belonging and inclusion.
  • This position works in partnership with the Human Resources department to ensure staff completes all relevant employment training.
  • This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all CFPUA policies and procedures.
  • This position works in partnership with the Human Resources department to ensure compliance with federal and state employment law.
  • Exercise a purchasing authority up to $1,000 without approval from supervisor.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of construction work or heavy equipment operation experience including managerial experience or any related work field.
  • NC Grade 2 Collections Systems Operator certification required. NC Grade 3 Collections must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • NC CDL Class A Driver's License is required. Tractor Trailer endorsement is preferred.
  • Advanced Traffic Control, CPR, and Work Zone Safety certifications or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment is required.
