Job Title: Database Specialist II

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Specialist II to join our team at the State of Maryland. As a key member of our Information Technology Division, you will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and controlling database management systems for our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor database performance and perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Perform database backups and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Install, configure, patch, and maintain Oracle software on Unix environments, focusing on Red Hat Linux platforms.
  • Manage file systems on Red Hat Linux platforms and configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Audit Logs.
  • Implement client database security standards for the Oracle database environment.
  • Assist developers and DBAs in detecting performance problems, including analysis of SQL and PL/SQL code.
  • Diagnose and resolve data problems, data storage problems, data access problems, and data software problems.
  • Perform system analysis of existing database systems and recommend strategies for improvement and migration into Oracle.
Requirements:
  • Two years of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and controlling database management systems for computers.
  • Experience testing, implementing, and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.
  • Substitution of graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or other information technology-related fields.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five plus (5+) years of professional experience using Oracle DBA platform (Database Administration).
  • Experience utilizing database environments, including backup, recovery, patching, upgrades, tuning, capacity planning, and optimization.
  • Experience with law enforcement databases.
Special Requirements:

Candidates for this position will be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation, including a polygraph examination, before permanent appointment can be made.
