**Job Description:**

As an Avionics Design Engineer at Astrolab, you will take full ownership of harness design, guiding it from initial concept and component selection through production, qualification, and integration within our rovers.

This multidisciplinary role offers a unique, hands-on opportunity to shape the overall architecture and functionality of the next generation of planetary exploration vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the electro-mechanical design of wire harnesses within our family of planetary rovers.
  • Create harness design solutions within a 3D NX CAD environment, managing technical trade studies to meet stakeholder objectives and adhere to internal design standards and requirements.
  • Generate electrical schematics to support both flight and qualification designs.
  • Own vehicle-level harnessing mechanical assemblies and drive to closure all systems integration trades related to those assemblies.
  • Perform analysis and physical testing (both mechanical and electrical) of harnessing with respect to thermal, loads, vibration, and shock to ensure full qualification for flight.
  • Document and communicate the design, analysis, and testing results thoroughly and clearly via design reviews.
  • Create and release on schedule, appropriate harnessing manufacturing documentation and drawings.
  • Interface with harness production and integration teams to ensure final harness designs can be produced and installed on schedule in accordance with overall project goals.

**Required Skills and Qualifications:**

  • 5+ years of experience with wire harness 3D design, installation drawings, and formboard creation, as well as wiring diagrams.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Proficiency with CAD and FEA software packages, particularly Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Skilled in 3D modeling for complex top-level assemblies and analysis of avionics enclosures and secondary structures.

**Estimated Salary:** $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
